South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford says he still wants to reconcile with first lady Jenny Sanford.

Sanford said Thursday he knows he hurt his wife with an affair he revealed in June.

Jenny Sanford had known about the affair since the beginning of the year.

The governor says he doesn’t begrudge his wife speaking out as she did in a nationally televised interview Wednesday night, or as she’s expected to do in an upcoming book.

A legislative panel voted 6-1 Wednesday against a a resolution to impeach Sanford.

Lawmakers voted instead to issue a rebuke tied to the affair and investigations of the governor’s travel and spending.

The inquiry was prompted by Sanford’s disappearance in June and confession of a yearlong affair with a woman in Argentina.
