A Louisiana teenager whose 2006 arrest in the racially charged "Jena 6" assault case drew thousands of protesters tried to commit suicide days after a separate arrest last week, a police report says.

Mychal Bell, who was arrested last week after allegedly stealing clothes worth $370 from a department store, told investigators he shot himself Monday evening "because he was tired of all the media attention," the report says. The high school senior’s mother and his grandmother also told an investigator that he’d indicated "he did not feel like he could live anymore" because of media coverage of the shoplifting allegations, according to the report.
Earlier, Bell’s attorney, Carol Powell-Lexing, told CNN that Bell’s family told her he’d accidentally shot himself while cleaning a gun.

A Fort Lauderdale, Florida, elementary school art teacher shook an 8-year-old student and punched him in the face, causing a bruise, because the youngster broke a crayon, according to a police report obtained Wednesday.

David Adam Grant, 36, a teacher at Sunland Elementary School, turned himself in to police Tuesday in connection with the November 5 incident, police said in a written statement.
According to the report released by Fort Lauderdale police, the mother called police after noticing a bruise over the boy’s right eye.

Can I Still Become A Teacher With An Arrest On My Record?

last year I was arrested after getting into a domestic violence dispute with my ex husband. I hate that it happened however, I make no regrets about defending myself. I called the police first, because I was hit first. He calls the police as well, he gets interviewed first, story sounds believable, then I am arrested by a female officer. Why? because of physical evidence on his face. Anyway, I am in school beginning my junior year as a teacher. My heart has always been in teaching and working with children since I have been employed. It's all that I know. I am by no means a horrible person. This was my only and will be my only arrest. I hate tjat this incident happened but I cannot take it back. Can I stilll become a teacher with this or should I just go ahead and change majors while I can?
