Outgoing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin may have violated state ethics laws by letting supporters set up a legal defense fund to help her battle ethics complaints, a preliminary report on the issue has found.

An investigator hired by the state personnel board recommended Palin — who gives up her office on Sunday — refuse money from the defense fund and ask the state to pay legal fees for ethics complaints that have been dismissed.
Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein said the report is not final, however, and he is preparing "supplemental information" for the investigator.

I'm still scratching my head as to why Sarah Palin quit in the middle of term as governor if she really has future political aspirations. Aside from her more rabid fans, will people overlook the fact that she can't handle public scrutiny and doesn't see her obligations through (among her various other shortcomings)?

In her first interview since giving birth, the teenage daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said having a child is not "glamorous," and that telling young people to be abstinent is "not realistic at all."

"It’s just, like, I’m not living for myself anymore. It’s, like, for another person, so it’s different," Bristol Palin told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren. "And just you’re up all night. And it’s not glamorous at all," she said. "Like, your whole priorities change after having a baby."
The 18-year-old, who gave birth in late December, said she is being helped tremendously by her mother, grandmother, cousins and other family members. She is engaged to teen father Levi Johnston, who is now working for his father and trying to complete school, but said she wishes that she waited another 10 years to have a baby.

Todd Palin and nine aides were found in contempt Friday by the Alaska Senate for failing to appear to testify in the Legislature’s "troopergate" investigation of his wife, Gov. Sarah Palin, a spokeswoman for the Alaska Democratic Party said.

But a Senate resolution said no one should be punished, because the 10 did submit statements to the investigator, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
The governor’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Actress Ashley Judd says a wolf management program backed by Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is "incredibly savage … it’s not right, it’s not appropriate, it makes no sense on any level."

Appearing on CNN’s "Larry King Live," Judd repeated her criticism of a program that allows hunters firing from aircraft to shoot wolves to thin the numbers of the animals.
Judd recently appeared in a video for the Washington-based Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund, which also opposes the Palin-backed aerial hunting program. Referring to the former Republican vice presidential candidate by name in the video, Judd says that Palin is "championing the slaughter of wildlife."

It’s 3 degrees and snowing outside the Alaska Volcano Observatory in Anchorage, but inside the operations center, things are heating up.

"This is kind of the nerve center, if you will," says geologist Michelle Coombs, who is at the helm of a bank of video monitors showing readouts from sensors on Mount Redoubt, a volcano about 100 miles southwest of Anchorage.
The sensors measure seismic activity on the volcano’s summit. Scientists at the observatory combine that information with data gathered from daily airplane flights to the volcano to measure gases and try to figure out if and when Redoubt is going to blow.
