Throughout his career as a television anchorman, Walter Cronkite had a few memorable run-ins with other powerful figures at CBS News, one of his producers told CNN.

Sanford "Sandy" Socolow, who worked at CBS News for 32 years, more than four of them as Cronkite’s producer, said Cronkite ran into trouble soon after he took over for Douglas Edwards in the "CBS Evening News" anchor chair.
"The first night up, he ended the show by saying, I’m paraphrasing, ‘That’s the news. Be sure to check your local newspapers tomorrow to get all the details on the headlines we are delivering to you.’"

Four survivors of the US Airways Flight 1549 that went down in the Hudson River appeared on "Larry King Live" Thursday to discuss a recording of the pilot calmly telling an air traffic controller the plane would ditch.

"We’re gonna be in the Hudson," pilot Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger radioed on January 15, about three and a half minutes after the Airbus A320 took off from New York’s LaGuardia Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration released the recording on Thursday, a day after the National Transportation Safety Board said both the plane’s engines contained the remains of birds.

Eric Bell worked his way into middle management during his nearly 10-year career at eFunds, a financial services company in the Phoenix, Arizona, area. He made about $100,000 a year, and his career was on the up. Times were good.

But it came to a crashing halt in May when his job was slashed after another company acquired eFunds. No big deal, he thought, a guy like me with an MBA can get a new job quickly.
Seven months later, the 41-year-old father of a 5-year-old boy has yet to find a full-time job. He now files for unemployment benefits every week online — a check totaling $216.
