As Sarah Palin handed over the Alaska governorship this weekend, the wear, tear and resentments of a year on the big stage were evident for the former GOP vice presidential candidate.

Her parting words Sunday included a parting shot at the media:
"So how about in honor of the American soldier, you quit making up things. And don’t underestimate the wisdom of the people. And one other thing for the media — our new governor has a very nice family, too, so leave his kids alone," she said as she handed off power to Sean Parnell, the lieutenant governor.

Outgoing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin may have violated state ethics laws by letting supporters set up a legal defense fund to help her battle ethics complaints, a preliminary report on the issue has found.

An investigator hired by the state personnel board recommended Palin — who gives up her office on Sunday — refuse money from the defense fund and ask the state to pay legal fees for ethics complaints that have been dismissed.
Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein said the report is not final, however, and he is preparing "supplemental information" for the investigator.

Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin said Wednesday that a Senate ethics panel is investigating Sen. Roland Burris after his disclosure that he had spoken with the brother of Rod Blagojevich about raising money for the disgraced former governor while seeking appointment to the Senate.

Durbin’s comments came shortly before Rep. Phil Hare, a Democrat from western Illinois, became the first member of Congress to publicly call on Burris to step down, describing the ongoing Blagojevich saga as "a recurring nightmare."
"Given this latest revelation, I believe it is in the best interest of all Illinoisans that Senator Burris resigns," Hare said in a statement. "Our state and its citizens deserve the whole truth, not bits and pieces only when it is convenient."
