A bombing in one of the Egyptian capital’s busy tourist districts killed a French tourist Sunday and wounded 21 other people, including 14 Europeans, the country’s Interior Ministry reported.

The wounded included 13 other French nationals, one of whom was in critical condition Sunday evening, and one German, the ministry reported. Three Saudis and four Egyptians, including a child and a police officer, also were hurt.
A man and a woman were arrested after the incident, security officials said. The nationalities of the arrestees were not disclosed.

A French battleship sunk by German torpedoes in 1917 is lying upright and almost intact at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea, where it was found by an unmanned submarine surveying a proposed gas pipeline route between Italy and Algeria.

Details of the Danton’s discovery were released at a news conference Thursday in Milan, Italy, where the pipeline construction company, Galsi, is based.
The condition of the World War I-era ship is "extraordinarily good," said Robert Hawkins, a project director with Fugro, a geotechnical, survey and geosciences company based in the Netherlands.

The British Royal Navy submarine HMS Vanguard.British, French nuclear submarines ‘collide’
A British Royal Navy nuclear submarine was involved in an accident with a French submarine while on operations in the Atlantic Ocean, CNN has learned. Both vessels are understood to have been carrying nuclear warheads at the time and to have suffered damage.

British media reports suggested that the two vessels, HMS Vanguard and Le Triomphant, had collided on February 3 or 4. But the UK’s Ministry of Defence would not confirm details of the incident.
"It is MOD policy not to comment on submarine operational matters, but we can confirm that the UK’s deterrent capability has remained unaffected at all times and there has been no compromise to nuclear safety," a spokesman said. The French Ministry of Defense would not comment on the alleged accident.

The scrapping of the aircraft carrier has been hugely controversial and a major headache for France.French toxic ship ends global odyssey
A ship laden with toxic substances is due to arrive in northeast England for recycling Sunday, ending an odyssey that has seen it turned away from at least three other countries.

The French Navy spent years looking for a site that would decommission the former aircraft carrier Clemenceau, now known simply as the Q790. The ship contains asbestos, which can cause cancer.
Greenpeace activists boarded the ship off the coast of Egypt in 2006 to prevent it being sent to India to be scrapped. The environmental campaign group said at the time it contained "high levels of asbestos and other hazardous materials." Two activists climbed the ship’s masts and hung banners reading "Absestos carrier: stay out of India."

Seven French soldiers were killed when their military helicopter crashed off the coast of Gabon, the country’s official news agency said Sunday.

Two French soldiers survived the Saturday night crash, the agency said.
French Defense Minister Herve Morin arrived in Gabon’s capital of Libreville on Sunday and met with President Omar Bongo to coordinate recovery efforts for the body of one of the seven soldiers whose remains had not been found.
