It’s no secret that liberals throughout the nation are rejoicing at Rush Limbaugh’s supposed status as leader of the Republican Party. I can see why. He’s easy to pick on.

His rhetoric is extreme, and his personal life has at times been less than picture-perfect. I’ve heard some pundits refer to Vice President Joe Biden as "the gift that keeps on giving." I imagine the left feels the same way about Limbaugh.
Rush was an integral part of my childhood. I must have been 6 or 7 when I started listening in the late 1980s. I remember that my parents and their friends found him refreshing, and I remember that he made them laugh.

Ann Nixon Cooper craned her neck and leaned her head forward. On the television set across the room, Barack Obama moved forward and put his hand on the Bible.

At 107 years old, Cooper said she always believed she might live to see a black man sworn in as president of the United States.
"I had that in mind all the time — all the time — hoping for a great change that would happen in my day," she said, a charm necklace with a gold "107" around her neck.

Congressman Charles Rangel’s fate hangs in the balance as a report concerning the Ways and Means Committee chairman is being prepared for release in early January.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said she is waiting for the report from the House Ethics Committee before deciding what to do about several allegations against Rangel.
He’s under investigation for allegedly using formal letterhead to solicit donations to a school to be named in his honor; helping one donor’s company keep a tax loophole; having unreported income from a vacation villa; and having several rent-controlled apartments at below market rates, including one set up for his campaign operations in violation of state and local laws.
