Lieutenant governor replaces Blagojevich
It wasn’t long after the Illinois state Senate voted unanimously to remove Democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich from office that Lt. Gov. Patrick Quinn put his hand on a Bible and took the oath of office to replace him.
Quinn, a 60-year-old tax attorney, has spent most of the last 27 years in public office. On Thursday, he took up his greatest challenge yet.
"In this moment our hearts are hurt," Quinn said after the swearing in. "It is very important that all of us understand that we have a duty, a mission, to restore the faith of the people of Illinois in the integrity of our government and to make sure that all of our elected officials have the confidence of the voters.

Should Blagojevich Be Allowed To Pick The Next Senator Of Illinois?
After all the trouble Blagojevich has been in, should he still be allowed to pick the next senator to fill Obama's seat?

Democratic leadership: Senate to seat Burris
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Illinois senior senator and Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin said Monday that the Senate would accept the credentials of former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris.
"The Secretary of the Senate has determined that the new credentials presented today on behalf of Mr. Burris now satisfy Senate Rules and validate his appointment to the vacant Illinois Senate seat. In addition, as we requested, Mr. Burris has provided sworn testimony before the Illinois House Committee on Impeachment regarding the circumstances of his appointment," the two said in a statement.
"We have spoken to Mr. Burris to let him know that he is now the Senator-designate from Illinois and as such, will be accorded all the rights and privileges of a Senator-elect," the statement said. "Accordingly, barring objections from Senate Republicans, we expect Senator-designee Burris to be sworn in and formally seated later this week. We are working with him and the office of the Vice President to determine the date and time of the swearing-in."

What Do You Think Of The Newly Senate Designee Ronal Burris Of Illinois During Today's Hearing Before The…?
Illinois State Senate? Despite being known with "impeccable" credentials, I think that the man was lying through his teeth particularly about the 1.2 million dollar "loan" (essentially political contribution) and the fact that he could not remember (except for one or two) names of Blagovitch's staff during a party. Plus the fact that he said he did not know the phone call by the governor's chief of staff was all about. They should use the word "impeccable" sparingly when judging politicians.

Hours after being impeached by an overwhelming vote in the Illinois House of Representatives, a defiant Gov. Rod Blagojevich proclaimed Friday that he was not guilty of impeachable offenses and would fight "every step of the way."
The embattled governor said lawmakers’ actions were politically driven.
"The House action today was not a surprise. It was a foregone conclusion," Blagojevich said at a news conference in Chicago. "From the very moment of my re-election, I’ve been engaged in a struggle with the House to try to get things done for people.

Panel investigating Blagojevich won’t subpoena Obama advisers
After being told by prosecutors that their testimony could jeopardize the ongoing criminal investigation, the Illinois House panel considering impeachment charges against Gov. Rod Blagojevich will not subpoena advisers to President-elect Barack Obama, the panel’s chairwoman said Sunday.
The impeachment panel was urged to issue the subpoenas last week in a letter from Blagojevich’s attorney, Ed Genson.
Genson urged that more than a dozen witnesses, including incoming White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, be subpoenaed.

"Hold up that f—ing Cubs s—. F— them," she allegedly said as her husband, Democratic Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, bandied about a scheme to withhold state funds from the Cubs’ parent Tribune Company unless the owner agreed to fire certain Chicago Tribune employees.
Seven days later, according to the affidavit, she took part in a meeting about whether President-elect Barack Obama would secure a lucrative job for her if her husband appointed Obama’s preferred candidate to his vacant Senate seat.
