"Slumdog Millionaire," the little film about a poverty-raised teaboy who goes on a game show as a way to find his lost love, won best picture Sunday night, earning a total of eight Oscars at the 81st annual Academy Awards.

As the stage filled with the film’s huge cast, producer Christian Colson talked about "Slumdog’s" "extraordinary journey."
"Most of all we had passion and we had belief, and our film shows if you have those two things, you have everything," said Colson.

Kate Winslet won best supporting actress in a movie for her role in "The Reader" at the SAG Awards on Sunday.‘Slumdog’ cast wins, ‘Button’ gets zip at SAG Awards
The actors of "Slumdog Millionaire" won outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture, and Heath Ledger posthumously won best supporting male actor at the 15th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday.

"It was overwhelming enough to be nominated, but to win this is unbelievable," said "Slumdog" actor Anil Kapoor of the award given to him and his cast mates at Los Angeles’ Shrine Exposition Center.
The cast’s win comes two weeks after the modestly budgeted movie, about a poverty-raised orphan in Mumbai who goes on the Indian version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," won the Golden Globe award for best drama has been nominated for 10 Oscars, including for best picture.

Martial arts fighter, wife found dead
A mixed martial arts fighter and his wife have been found shot to death in their Southern California home, authorities said.

The bodies of Justin Levens and Sarah McLean-Levens were found Wednesday afternoon in their Laguna Niguel condominium by the woman’s mother, who then called authorities, according to Jim Amormino, a spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Authorities said the bodies were found in a bedroom and a gun was also found at the scene.

Almost 60 tense hours after a team of well-trained terrorists launched a meticulously planned set of attacks on Mumbai, their reign of terror appeared to be over Saturday.

"Three terrorists have been killed," J.K. Dutt, director-general of the National Security Guard, told a throng of reporters outside the smoldering Taj Mahal Hotel, site of the terrorists’ final stand.
Police Chief Hussain Gafoor said all the gunmen at the hotel had been killed.
