A man described as a former employee shot and killed two people and seriously wounded another at a Baton Rouge, Louisiana, construction company before workers wrestled him to the ground, sheriff’s officials said.

A former transit police officer charged with murder was released from custody Friday after posting a $3 million bail.

Dozens of demonstrators gathered in downtown Oakland to protest the release of Johannes Mehserle, 27, charged with killing an unarmed man on New Year’s Day.
The former Bay Area Rapid Transit police officer’s release funds came from unknown sources, Alameda officials told CNN.

Robbie Tolan sits in a Houston, Texas, hospital bed with a bullet from a police officer’s gun lodged in his liver. The son of a famed baseball player was shot in his own driveway.

But how this unarmed 23-year-old and his cousin ended up in the cross-hairs of an officer’s gun, suspected of stealing a car, is a question sparking allegations of racial profiling.
"There’s no doubt in my mind that if these had been white kids this does not happen," said David Berg, Tolan’s attorney.

The officer involved in a New Year’s Day shooting that left a passenger dead in a crowded Oakland, California, subway station has received numerous death threats, a transit spokesman said Wednesday.

Bay Area Rapid Transit spokesman Linton Johnson’s remarks to CNN came shortly before the funeral for the passenger, 22-year-old Oscar Grant.
A BART officer fatally shot Grant in the back after he and some friends were pulled from a train car following a report of an altercation, according to a BART statement.

Authorities investigating the case of a boy who disappeared in Kansas almost a decade ago plan to search an undisclosed residence Wednesday, the Butler County sheriff said.

Sheriff Craig Murphy would not disclose details about the residence or why authorities want to search it.
He said his department will also search on an area of the Whitewater River, in southern Kansas, on Saturday near where Adam Herrman was last seen.
