The former parents-in-law of a man accused of killing nine people at a Christmas Eve party were among the remains of six people identified Saturday by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Three other people remain listed as "missing" and "unidentified" because their remains were too badly burned in the raging house fire that followed the shootings.
Police said Bruce Jeffrey Pardo committed suicide after he went on a shooting rampage dressed as Santa Claus at the party in the Los Angeles suburb of Covina. He targeted his ex-wife, 43-year-old Sylvia Pardo, and her family, police said. He then started the fire, police said.

The man who police say dressed as Santa Claus and killed nine people at a Christmas Eve party lived with guilt from an incident that left his son from a previous relationship a paraplegic, according to an attorney who once represented the woman in that relationship.

Prime suspect Bruce Jeffrey Pardo, who police said committed suicide hours after he went on a shooting rampage and started a raging house fire in the Los Angeles suburb of Covina, had a son who sustained severe brain damage several years ago in an apparent swimming pool accident while he was in Pardo’s care, according to attorney Jeffrey Alvirez.
Police have said Pardo targeted his rampage at his former wife, Sylvia Ortega Pardo, and her family at the family’s Christmas Eve party.

A pipe bomb exploded Thursday night in a rental car used a day earlier by a man suspected in a Christmas Eve attack that left at least eight people dead, police said.

The car was parked outside a Sylmar, California, home where Bruce Jeffrey Pardo, 45, committed suicide hours after he allegedly — dressed as Santa Claus — opened fire at a holiday party and then started a raging blaze inside a Covina, California, home, police said.
Investigators have yet to identify eight charred bodies recovered from the burned house, which belonged to the parents of Pardo’s ex-wife. A ninth person is counted as missing.
